About This CD

This album is a 10-year retrospective celebrating the advent of chant music in mainstream America . Who knew that over the past decade yoga and healing centers would become the new community hubs for physical and spiritual growth?  My music has found its way to you because of this grass roots movement. Ten years may seem like a long time, but to be honest, I have been doing this all my life. The broadband connection to Infinite is created the moment I start singing. I don't know why that is, I just know that it is so. Opening up to that energy is something that has both nurtured me and catapulted me into the abyss. Many of you share this experience, and together we have created a community of fans and friends all over the world. I thank you for buying my CDs, supporting my tours and generally offering your enthusiasm. It is because of you that I have been able to explore the gift of healing through music. -wah!

Editorial Reviews

Australian Yoga Life Magazine/March-July 2007 by Richard Clark
Wah! has been the voice behind some of the most rapturous and downright beautiful yoga chant music of the last decade.  On The Best of Wah! you'll hear tracks from 10 CDs of the last 10 years including Stay in My Heart (Amma) from the album Embrace, Heart Sutra from Savasana*2, and an enchanting version of Om Namah Shivaya from Hidden in the Name.  Wah! melds pleasing modern melodies perfectly with age old mantras and chants, as is the case with Bolo Ram from Jai Jai Jai, and charges English lyrics with spiritual insight as in Is It Love from Unplugged.  A bass player and violinist (who studied raga on violin with Ravi Shankar's disciple Roop Verma), she has travelled far and wide studying world music, lived the Ashram life, taught yoga, and toured with and managed Krishna Das.  When Wah! sings, you're spellbound.  Some say her music is addictive.  Some feel she is a Devi.  Find out yourself with The Best of Wah!

Inner Change Magazine/Cherie Lassiter There is a purity and grace to the voice of Wah. With a blend of chant, pop and world music, Wah will have you chanting with her or as a backdrop for yoga, massage or bodywork. Wah has performed with Krishna Das and studied in the US , India and Africa . Her interpretations of familiar chants such as 'Om Namah Shivaya', 'Om Mani Padme Om', and 'Gayatri' will inspire and deepen your meditation. Track 5, 'Gayatri', is a chill mix that will give you the chills. Track 8, 'Heart Sutra' will open your heart and body. Her familiar and beloved 'Bolo Ram' and 'It is Love' are included on this CD. The Best of Wah is a spirited collection of soul sounds to enhance stillness, devotion and release in your heart, spirit and body. There isn't a track on here I don't absolutely love! 2/10/2007 www.innerchangemag.com

LA Yoga Ayurveda & Health/Michael Mollura Anyone who has been a kirtan junkie here in Los Angeles for the last decade or so knows who Wah is. Her accompanying violin solos with Krishna Das, and her bass playing and guitar strums are recognized nationally, as well as her ability to sing. Wah puts a unique slant on the familiar but ancient Sanskrit words. She has spent a lifteime immersed in music and has established herself as a champion of the devotional call-and-response chanting of kirtan. The Best of collection is just as it sounds; it's Wah's most requested studio material all on one CD. It starts off with the hypnotic 15-minute "Bolo Ram" and then includes some of Wah's melodic, English-sung tunes like "Is It Love" and "Stay in My Heart." This CD is a must-have for anyone who hasn't heard Wah's music or just hasn't purchased one of her many albums. It is a 10-year retrospective of recordings from which she has chosen the very best from her catalogue. As someone who has not only reported on Wah's career over the years, but has had the honor of working with her as a musician, I realize it may seem difficult to remain unbiased. But the basic fact is that Wah has been a part of the kirtan music scene as long as she has had a path. Wah has been an inspiration to many women who have wished to pursue this path, and her devotion has been an important part of the lives of many Los Angeles-based yogis (myself included). Krishna Das always says at the end of his chants that we must honor those who have walked the path before us, and to this generation of Bhakti Yoga devotees, Wah is one of those souls. She not only walks the walk and talks the talk, but she offers herself generously and that energy is woven into the texture of each of her songs. This is an excellent CD to use for any kind of spiritual or physical practice and is highly recommended. 2/1/2007 www.layogamagazine.com

MyShelf.com Get in tune with your spiritual oneness, that magical place that is locked inside you that is trying to be set free. Oneness is a state of unity; to travel this well known path is the truest form of self discovery. From the beginning of the first track of The Best of Wah your ears are surrounded by a haunting melody that sets the stage for a unique listening pleasure. Each song provides a sense of serenity that transfers into a peaceful oasis that allows your mind to clear. It is as though you body is made of air and is rising upwards to the Heavens. To fully appreciate all of the beauty that is contained on this audio, I took one evening and dedicated it to listening to its entirety. Stretched out with my eyes closed, I allowed all of my thoughts to be set aside and focused solely on the music that filled my ears. I was quickly rewarded with a state of total relaxation. It was as though each track took me deeper into a state of calm. There is a variety of musical instruments encompassed in each one of these thirteen tracks. For over an hour you will quickly find yourself mesmerized by each of these new age offerings. Although the words were foreign to my ears, it was not difficult to hear the passion and dedication that went into the creation of each one. There is a wide variety of ways in which this CD can greatly enhance anyone's life. A few suggestions I would like to include involve: playing it as background music throughout your work day, or incorporating it into your daily yoga routine. Whichever way you select to add to your musical pleasure you will be assured that an enlightening experience is awaiting your ears that will fill your body with completeness. Very highly recommended.
