  JAI JAI JAI

Jai Jai Jai weaves simple lines of devotion with hip production and industry talent. Tracks contributed by Katisse Buckingham, Kirk Margo, George Shelby, Paul Hollman, Girish Gambhira and David Leach. Chants to Durge, Ram, Krishna, Gayatri Mantra and Om Mani Padme Hum. Also includes "What She Has to Give." Hip production, mellow grooves and a trippy acoustic band set the stage for Wah!'s sweet, silky voice....

About This CD

The problem was, we kept playing new chants while we were on tour. And the longer we stayed on tour, the more new chants got composed. This album was created to offer a CD of songs many audiences already knew and loved....(read more)

Editorial Reviews

Australian Yoga Life/Brisbane, Australia
Wah! just might be a devi. She sings with the voice of a goddess. Jai Jai Jai reflects the deep devotion and reverence of a seasoned bhakta. The musical arrangements are contemporary and juicy. 8/01/2004

Backroads Music/Corte Madera, CA
Western musical styles and Eastern spirituality come together seamlessly on Wah!'s Jai Jai Jai, an intoxicating album of chants themed after love, wisdom and praise. The serene sounds of light harmonium, pennywhistle, violin, percussion and guitar comprise the flowing backdrops on which Wah!'s call-and-response style Sanskrit mantras float airily, like whispers on the wind. Shri Krishna, which slowly builds in intensity as the song progresses, is a great example of joyous, uplifting chanting that has universal appeal. Another highlight is Om Mani Padme Hum - a beautiful song whose use of whistle, guitar and Wah!'s ethereal vocals almost make it sound Celtic. This is a great addition to Wah!'s collection of albums of devotional chant. Her soulful sound now may be heard on six different CDs. 7/10/04

Ellis Widner/The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
Wah! has an alluring voice that soothes, implores and invites listeners to celebrate the sacred through chant. Her mix of vocal passion and elegance, subtle grooves and accessible song structure pulls a listener into her realm. Wah! has found a fertile ground between Western music and Eastern spirituality. 5/30/04

Adam Skolnick/LA Yoga Magazine
Wah!'s intelligent song structure and funky bass grooves support an ethereal and elegant vocal which carves through extended chants while shifting ambience, mood and tempo smoothly. Throughout the disc are inflections from Africa, India, and American pop. My favorite track is Durge - I love the traditional melodic line of this mantra praising the goddess, and Wah! begins with it before whirling into a celebratory anthem that uses the call and response structure of kirtan to braid choral harmonies into a large, colorful and infectious tune. This one's a jewel. 1/15/2004

Michael Woodhead/WIND AND WIRE
This absolutely marvelous and melodic album proved a delight to listen to, sing along with, and gives the listener an opportunity to relax in its rhythmic tunes. Wah! presents one song in English—What She Has to Give—a light jazzy blues number (for more of her jazz-blues music, check out Wah!’s Opium album). My personal favourite—Sri Krishna. Wah! has traveled to many countries, notably India and Africa, and these places have influenced much of her music. Wah! and her band present music with a blend of pop, reggae and world styles, well worth a listen at any time. 12/1/2003

Mystic Radio/Encinitas, CA
Because we are an online radio station, we have the capacity to track who is listening, who leaves and who arrives, during any song. No one ever leaves while WAH! is playing. I get many requests and thanks from people about WAH!'s music. 7/29/03

Fan Reviews

Christina /Myspace Thank you for making such inspiring and peaceful music.  I fell head over heels for Jai Jai Jai, and I've never been the same since.  Phenomenal work - thank you! 10/23/07

Chor Pharn/Shanghai, Singapore I listen to your music almost every day. My favorite is the Om Mani Padme Hum chant in Jai Jai Jai, and next is Hare Krishna on Savasana. You might be tickled to know that your music was first circulated in Shanghai about 4 years ago, when I was taking yoga with Abby, a friend of Julie (Julie's Yoga). I googled your music after that and it has followed me since. Thank you thank you thank you. There is so much love present. March 2007

Bob Clyatt/Rye, NY There are parts of this CD that qualify as the most moving music I've ever heard, specifically, parts of Track 2. You've probably got to love kirtan and Wah! to feel as enthusiastic as I do, but even if you're only curious and interested in learning more about this type of hindu/chanting/music, this is the one album I would recommend as a great first place to start. (amazon.com April 2006)

Gordon Boyvey/Iowa   When I played the first song, Bolo Ram, it had the effect of an immediate, intense, emotional connection and release in me. I was so touched......the tears flowed.......The feeling of deep Gratitude was and still is happening for me.....   THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. The effects of your music has "stirred it up" for many here in Iowa. 2/9/2006

Clayton Hoover/USA   This CD is my new favorite. I simply cannot get enough of it. 05/05/2005

Lana/USA   Each track is brilliant and the mix is perfectly suited to a yoga practice. 05/05/2005

Victoria Neuman Talbot/Thousand Oaks, California   Wah! has become the music of choice for me and everyone I play her CDs for. Her style is soothing and calm, uplifting and transformational. It conveys joyousness and rapture. It is accessable and understandable to us ordinary mortals, because it appeals to something universal inside of us. It is a musical journey, and I am excited that I have been able to participate in it. Wah has a gift of great value which she lovingly shares. Her music enhances anyone who listens. 10/30/04

Paula/Rio de Janeiro, Brasil   Many thanks Wah!! Today we sang “Durge Jai Ma” from your CD “Jai Jai Jai.”  It’s so beautiful, we all get so happy and really touched by your voice. 6/30/2004

Frank Barnett/Cleveland, OH  Jai Jai Jai seems to be your best in showing what unique angles Americans can bring to kirtan. Awesome experience. 12/05/03

Alex Baltovski/NYC   I just listened to your new CD and If I may say so you have managed to outdo yourself. The words that come to my mind include: inspired, spiritual, full of love, peace and joy. This CD is one of the best pieces of music I have ever heard. All the best. 11/11/2003

PJ Morrison/Pacifica, CA   Jai Jai Jai is simply the most exquisite CD in the collection. My friend Tom heard it in the car ~ all he could say was "WOW..."  (that is, once he could speak!) Then he kept muttering, "That's one kick ass CD." (Tom's working on his spirituality) No kidding, that's all he could say for 5 minutes. 10/24/03

Girish Gambhira/Santa Monica, CA   Jai Jai Jai is a quantum leap in the chant market. People like you who are the real veterans of the music are shaping the direction of how it should sound. Stellar production. It's a radical development. This CD will definitely be noticed. 10/23/03

Erik Sloan/Yosemite Mountains, CA   Thanks for the new album. Jai Jai Jai! Because the making of it encompassed two (or wait three!) of your trips to Tucson, it's especially sweet to finally have some of that new stuff on cd. We chanted Durge in each of the last three concerts--each of which rocked the house and had everyone commenting on the cool groove for days. 10/17/03

Darren/Tucson, AZ  I just heard the first few chants of Jai Jai Jai before class. A magic moment, scrumptuous and delicious to all 5 senses and beyond. I'll play the CD til you get here... 9/14/2003

Malik/New York City   Wow! Thanks so much for this new CD. Jai Jai Jai has a unique style ~ it's kind of a live feel and a studio feel at the same time. I have a roommate who plays your CDs ever since I left one in the changer one day, and now she's blasting the new one louder than ever. 7/18/2003

Alan Fitts/Philadelphia, PA   Jai Jai Jai is Joy Joy Joy. 7/10/03

Susan/Boise, ID   So, I'm driving in my car and I put in your rough mix of JAI JAI JAI, and 60 seconds later I'm crying, my skin is all prickly and my heart is about to break through my chest. I don't really have words for how I feel when I listen to your music, except a profound yearning, joy and utter peace in the deepest part of me. If I ruled the world, everyone would listen to your music until they actually heard it, and it lit a fire in their soul that they couldn't extinguish. 7/8/03
